MadMayo Runners Take on the Turkey

Thanksgiving saw record numbers of runners joining together across this great nation in various Turkey Trots, Stuffing Sashays, and, here in the Triad, the legendary Greensboro Gobbler. MadMayo Running Club descended en masse to claim medals, set PRs, slip in dog poop, and generally wreak loopular havoc in Country Park. Read the full report for all the gory details >>

Cashmere for Runners

Functional Fashion Tip: It’s winter, and your hands are freezing. Full-on mittens or gloves are too bulky for wrangling your stopwatch or iPod, and maybe even too hot after running a few blocks. What to do? Iris swears by these cashmere fingerless gloves. Cashmere generates enough heat for your whole hand, even with the gadget-friendly [...]

MadMayo Shine Run, or Piedmont Means FootHILLS

MMRC Group Run #2 is in the books! Nine runners, with ages ranging from 14 to, well, more than 14, ran a challenging hilly and scenic route around Madison, beginning and ending at ShineFest. Unspoken rules were broken, lungs were lost and regained, and a good time was had by all. Also, one couple somehow rigged the raffle to win both prizes. Click here to read the full recap…

The Couch Stresses You Out

Running helps your heart, but can it also make you less anxious? Maybe so, if rats on little treadmills are any indication. From the Well Blog in the New York Times: The “cells born from running,” the researchers concluded, appeared to have been “specifically buffered from exposure to a stressful experience.” The rats had created, [...]

A 47-year-old Canadian woman signed up to do a 10K walk in the Athens (Greece) Marathon, but took the wrong bus to the starting line and ended up doing the full marathon! Catherine Dickson‘s first thought after the initial shock wore off? She says she “didn’t come all this way to do nothing,” and set [...]

Want to run but don’t know where to start? Just start walking—in your living room! MMRCer Iris is a huge fan of Leslie Sansone’s walking workouts: “Leslie is so upbeat and supportive, and her workouts are easy to follow yet totally effective. Thirty minutes with Leslie always puts me in a good mood,” says Iris. [...]

Route for 11/21 MMRC Group Run

At last, the route is unveiled! This route shows off some of our favorite places around Madison. We begin with a hill, tour the historic district where we stop to TP Royce and Dena’s houses (kidding!), traverse a surprising pastoral scene, and finish along the river. Please remember that this is a casual club run, not an organized 5K. Bring your own beverages and snacks, be prepared for traffic, and enjoy a fun run with new friends. Click here for date, time, meeting place, and more…
