Route for 11/21 MMRC Group Run

Unless the ranks cry out in dissent, here is the loop for the November 21 MadMayo Running Club group run. A smidge over 3 miles, the route begins… with a hill. Why? Because some of us like to eat our brussels sprouts first and save the tasty pudding for last. In this case, the pudding takes the form of a scenic, flat finish near the river that brings us to the finish. Did you know that stretch along the river is part of the North Carolina Birding Trail? It’s a great spot for warbler watching during spring and fall migration.

Things to Know:
This is a casual club run, not a formal run, meaning no registration, no medals, no timing besides your watch. There are no water stations, no support staff. Roads will be open as this is an informal event: Watch out for and yield to cars/pedestrians/squirrels. We are all running at our own risk. Please arrived prepared to run accordingly: Bring your own beverages, snacks, etc.

MMRC is a loosely organized group of MadMayo residents—this is an informal club run where we all run as a group of friends. We’re looking forward to meeting new running buddies and hope you’ll join us for future group runs—and help us get the word out! The current group includes runners of varying speeds and abilities, so there’s someone to pace with no matter how fast or slow you run.

• Start and finish at the intersection of Murphy and Dalton Streets.
• The stretch along Decatur should be run on the sidewalk.
• We’ll be passing through Madison’s historic district on Hunter.
• The loop south of Academy is on gravel and will make you think you’re out in the country. Watch for bluebirds!
• The river loop begins with an unmanned, ungated, unlighted railroad crossing. LOOK BEFORE YOU CROSS!
• Most important, let’s hope for great running weather like this weekend!

See you at the intersection of Murphy and Dalton, 10 a.m. on Saturday, November 21.
