The marketing department at Asics has gone bonkers. From the Daily Mail: “The new Asics GEL-KAYANO 16 contains cushioning which expands and contracts in harmony with a woman’s hormones.” The shoe’s “technology” is based on the premise that “when estrogen is high, and a woman is at her most fertile, the arch drops. Later in the month, when she is menstruating, levels of the hormone are low but her arch is raised.” Asics calls it a “Gender-Specific Space Trusstic System,” which “recognizes the normal periodic changes [Nyuk! Get it?] in the shape of the woman’s arch and provides for the controlled deformation of the arch into the space within the system.”
Uh, yeah, okay, padding in the arch. And? $140! Want to support this lady jogger’s fluctuating arches? Call me when these suckers are made out of Chips Ahoys and Dove Bars. [Via Daily Mail]
