We can’t think of a better way to start a weekend than with a gathering of friends old and new at a local cross-country 5K followed by hot dogs and cake. And medals! Yep, we’re talking about the 2nd Annual Phoenix 5K Race Against Cancer, hosted by the McMichael High School History Club. Race director Jonathan Williams and his crew put on a fun and challenging run, and we’re happy to report that they met their fund-raising goal of $2,000 for the Lance Armstrong Foundation. Way to go! We’re also very proud that the Phoenix 5K is the first race MMRC has been asked to help sponsor. It’s on! The 2nd Annual Phoenix 5K Race Against Cancer, sponsored by the McMichael High School History Club. Saturday, May 22, 10:00 a.m., Farris Park in Mayodan. The race follows the official 5K course of the McMichael HS cross country team: rolling hills, grass, gravel of all sorts, sun, shade, etc. You might even spot a heron or pileated woodpecker around the pond.
