Remember winter? You know, the season that makes you shiver uncontrollably as the chill freezes the marrow in your bones? Sounds refreshing, doesn’t it? In no way does that describe the Fun Fourth Freedom 10K. Read on for the fiery wrap-up >>
No matter where you are in your running life, someone is always ahead of you. Far, far ahead. While some of us are thinking, “Man, how can I maintain such-and-such a pace for ONE marathon,” others are like, “Whatevs, dude. I’m going to run gajillions of miles and raise money for a good cause in [...]
That was a blast! Kudos to Greensboro Parks & Recreation and Janes on the Run for putting together a great inaugural event for a totally worthy cause: the Trail Mix 5K at Bur-Mil Park, with 100 percent of all donations benefiting Greensboro trails and greenways. Experience the adventure here >>
Some running clubs would post the results and recaps of their Saturday activities no later than, oh, maybe Sunday night? Not us MayMayosians! We’re trailblazers, trendsetters even, in the march toward expert procrastination. That said, here’s what happened last weekend, just in time for this weekend >>
Local runs are the best. You can sleep a little later, the drive is short, and the competition isn’t as fierce as it is, say, in the metropolis of Greensboro. Except, of course, when that crazy-fast Jay guy shows up. You’d be surprised who you might find on the podium (an actual podium!). MMRCers Not-Barefoot-This-Time Josh and Iris avoided worms, got the cool shirt, won trophies and raffles, and tell you all about it >>
MMRC is contemplating moving its HQ to Costa Rica, where our group runs will be messed with only by monkeys and toucans instead of snow, ice, and sub-freezing temps. While we pack our running thongs (and we’re not talking footwear), read Barefoot Josh’s latest favorite links >>
More snow, now rain, still cold, and the groundhog tells us to suck it up because there’s more just like it TK (that’s “to come” in editor-speak). Barefoot Josh reads the blogs so we don’t have to, and rounds up the best of the best—modestly including his own personal snarkfest, of course. Follow him—and very special guests Run-DMC!—over the reading rainbow >>
We MadMayoites love running on the Greensboro Greenway. We’re honored to share the path with Special Olympics athlete Andy the Marathon Man. His dedication to the sport is an inspiration, and the runners who cheer him on are an example of our running community’s good heart. Good running makes for good hearts, and good hearts [...]
MMRC groups runs and events are free (despite the headline), but even so, we always wrangle a little added value into every outing. Who knows what participants might get post-run: fudge, coffee, primitive trophies? Yes to all of those! This January saw the first of many Cake Runs, wherein the added value is pretty obvious—and totally worth coming out for. Barefoot Josh knows his way around a pastry recipe, that’s for sure. Sure, Sunday is allegedly a day of rest, but we all know that runners can’t truly rest. Even on rainy Sundays when we’re parked on the couch snarfing down ginger cookies, we’re busy looking for ways to improve our finish times, garner loot, and be recruited for medical studies. Well, at least some of us are…
