Local runs are the best. You can sleep a little later, the drive is short, and the competition isn't as fierce as it is, say, in the metropolis of Greensboro. Except, of course, when that crazy-fast Jay guy shows up. You'd be surprised who you might find on the podium (an actual podium!). MMRCers Not-Barefoot-This-Time Josh and Iris avoided worms, got the cool shirt, won trophies and raffles, and tell you all about it >>

MMRC groups runs and events are free (despite the headline), but even so, we always wrangle a little added value into every outing. Who knows what participants might get post-run: fudge, coffee, primitive trophies? Yes to all of those! This January saw the first of many Cake Runs, wherein the added value is pretty obvious—and totally worth coming out for. Barefoot Josh knows his way around a pastry recipe, that's for sure. Read more about the January Cake Run >>

Few running experiences can top a really good trail run. Few things in life are as grueling as a bad trail run. How can a runner influence the whims of fate in his/her favor? I'm probably not the best person to give advice on the topic; however, that won't stop me from sharing my thoughts—so long as you don't hold me liable.
MadMayo Running Club once again swarmed the streets of downtown Madison, this time to ring in the new year with the January One and Done 1-Mile Walk/Run. There was plenty of hale and hearty fellowship, walking, jogging, chatting, and even a little—well, let's be honest—pooping. Fortunately there were plenty of doggie bags to go around. Our numbers even reached double digits! New walk/run buddies were made, and the MMJOD Championship Trophy was awarded in democratic fashion via our world-famous raffle. Refreshments at the Harris residence topped off this MMRC event with a touch of well-organized class. If the January One and Done is any indication, 2010 is going to be a banner year. Read on for the full report >>
